The First Frame
For anyone who shoots film on a manual camera, the first exposure of any roll is known as a throwaway. There almost always seems to be some imperfection present, so many photographers simply throw this frame away by shooting things of no consequence. In this series, I show the first exposure of every roll I shoot, attempting to become comfortable with the unknown element that will appear over each picture. In a sense, the imperfection becomes the identifying feature of the work, even though the contents of each roll are completely unrelated.
